Over the past decade, methods from several fields including epidemiology, biostatistics, econometrics and computer science have rapidly advanced our ability to evaluate heterogeneity of treatment effects (HTE). However, several challenges remain before widespread adoption of these approaches to improve clinical treatment decision making. This talk will present a clear taxonomy of HTE methods and offer practical guidance to bridge the gap between traditional subgroup analyses and individualized treatment effect estimation.
